Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has announced new measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus.
The measures include a night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am, no gatherings over 50 people, no spectators at football matches, banning of political rallies and funeral vigils and opening and closing of bars from 2 pm to 10 pm on takeaway basis.
Learning institutions will continue being operational and only those with a cluster of cases shall be closed for fourteen days.
Speaking during a press conference on level 3 of the COVID-19 response on Wednesday, Chiponda said the new measures have been introduced because of a surge in coronavirus cases.
“From 1st June to 6th July 2021, cumulatively we have recorded 3,032 new COVID-19 cases, 62 deaths and the admissions in the treatment units have risen from 10 to 109 during the same period. This is the highest number being recorded following the reduced numbers since the end of second wave in February 2021,” she said.
Chiponda said a total of 109 active cases are currently hospitalized in treatment units across the country as of July 5, 2021.
