ACB to interview Mutharika over K5bn cement saga

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) says it will interview former President Peter Mutharika from July 20, 2021 as part of the ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse of his Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN).

A statement signed by ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala the interview is part of the normal legal process which commenced in 2020.

“The ACB hopes this will put the record straight on the various stories circulating in the social media surrounding this matter,” the statement reads.

Mutharika’s personal bodyguard Norman Chisale, former Chief of Staff Peter Mukhito and businessman Ahmed Chunara were arrested last year on allegations that they imported about 1.2 million bags of cement using the former president’s duty free privilege.
