Police hunt for suspects after murder of person with albinism

Malawi Police Service (MPS) has instituted an investigation into the murder of Ian Mahamba a person with albinism at Kachere in Blantyre.

This comes a day after United Nations Malawi released a press statement urging government to look into the matter.

A statement signed by MPS Public Relations Officer James Kadadzera said investigations are closing in on the suspects.

Mahamba who was from Makina Village, Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje District is believed to have been murdered by unknown people in Kachere Township between 8 and 13 of August 2021.

According to the statement, some body parts that were confirmed to be of the deceased were found in Maone Forest within Kachere area on August 15, 2021.
