Two women have been arrested in Mulanje for forcing girls into an initiation ceremony without consent from their parents.
Mulanje Police Spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said the girls were taken to an initiation camp against their will and when police got the report they rushed to the venue to rescue the girls.
“It is unfortunate that in this era some people are still forcing people to do something they do not want,” said Ngwira.
The two are Lexa Chipatso, 55, and Patricia Fyson, 41, both of Kamwendo Village, Senior Chief Chikumbu in Mulanje.
Police has since asked all persons to respect people’s rights much as they are trying to preserve culture.
The two will appear before court soon.
