Police in Dedza have arrested a 90 year-old man for allegedly defiling his two grand-daughters aged between 10 and 11 years.

According to Dedza police deputy publicist, Sergeant Cassim Manda, the suspect identified as Lester Dunken, is alleged to have defiled the minors at Kufunda village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in the district.

He said the suspect was coaxing the children by giving them money amounting to K100.

It is alleged that on September 18, 2021 the mother of one of the victims saw her 10 year-old daughter stepping out of the suspect’s house but surprisingly the child had her underwear in her hands.

Upon quizzing her, the young girl revealed that she had sex with her grandfather.

The mother then reported the incident to Lobi Police Unit and later the suspect was arrested.

The suspect admitted to have defiled the girl and her 11 year-old elder sister

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer the charges of defilement contrary to section 138 of penal code  which also attracts maximum sentence of life imprisonment if found guilty.
