CDEDI questions Chakwera’s leadership style

The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has written President Lazarus Chakwera asking him to consider reflecting on his calls for Malawians bear economic hardships.

In a three-paged letter dated November 10, 2021 addressed to State House, CDEDI has made four demands including asking the Malawi Leader to trim his power as pledged during campaign period.

“This is one of the flagship promises you made to Malawians which we believe if you were honest and sincere enough you should have instructed the Malawi Law Commission to kick start the process and let Malawians when the Bill will be tabled in Parliament.

“Secondly, your own action your own action should have demonstrated willingness to walk the talk on the promise by among many others be seen to be moving towards co-presidency promise made at Kamuzu Institute for Sports,” reads the letter in part.

According to CDEDI executive director Sylvester Namiwa, the Chakwera’s Tonse led administration has failed to demonstrate transparency and accountability rating it as a worst leadership the country has had.

Reads the letter: “It is therefore safe to say that Malawians can no longer trust you, since it is clear that your leadership style thrives of lies and half-baked truths, contrary to the principle and spirit of section 12 of the constitution.
Frankly speaking, your critics rate your leadership as the worst of all the previous leaders Malawi has had.”

Namiwa has bemoaned President Chakwera`s tendency of what he calls unnecessarily travel every day both locally and internationally without delegating his vice or cabinet ministers.

“Your Excellency, you need to consider reflecting on your calls for Malawians to bear the economic hardships, and yet you unnecessarily travel every day both locally and internationally without even considering to delegate the Vice President, or cabinet ministers,” said Namiwa.

Meanwhile, acting presidential press secretary Anthony Kasunda has confirmed to Yoneco FM that the State House received the CDEDI letter.
