Two Rwandan nationals jailed for robbery in Dowa

The Dowa First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Friday sentenced two 21-year old Rwandan nationals to 4 years in prison each for robbing a Malawian, mobile phone valued at K9,000 and cash amounting to K6,600.

The court through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Ezara Bakili heard that the convicts Niyangulu Fulosiyano and Shimilimana Bosco robbed Masongola Frank of Chimanga Village in Traditional Authority Msakambewa on his way home from Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

The two pleaded not guilty to charges of robbery which prompted the state to parade four witnesses, leading to their conviction.

In his submission, state prosecutor Sub Inspector Bakili pleaded with the court to pass a stiff punishment to the two, arguing that the offence committed is serious in nature.

Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Amran Phiri said the sentence should serve as a warning to other would-be offenders.
