Mzuzu University (MZUNI) authorities have expressed a worry over non adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures by students a situation which has fueled the spread of the deadly virus at the campus.

MZUNI authorities have announced the closure of the school three days earlier for Christmas break due to increased covid-19 cases at the campus.

MZUNI spokesperson, Cliff Kawanga said currently they have registered more than 96 cases of COVID-19 as per the data collected last week.

Kawanga attributed the rise in cases to failure by students to abide by the COVID-19 preventive measures.

“We have closed earlier than planned because COVID-19 cases are still increasing at the campus,” he said.

Kawinga said the closure will help the school to disinfect the school premises and later reopens on January 9, 2022.

“We have planned to use the two weeks to disinfect the campus so that when we will be opening again next year in January some of these cases will be dropped,” added Kawanga.
