Govt asked to do more on cancer treatment

By Cecilia Chimseu

Cancer Survivor’s Quest says lack of treatment and awareness campaigns are the challenges that the country is facing in dealing with cervical cancer.

The organization’s executive director, Chikhulupiliro Ng’ombe said this to YFM online as the country observes cervical cancer awareness month.

According to Ng’ombe, awareness is the foundation because once the nation is aware; every effort that comes after it is more meaningful and productive.

“Cervical cancer is a challenge in Malawi as much as a lot happens in the area, we do think it is only the government that has the responsibility to provide screening services, but as cancer survivors quest  we do some screening as one way of helping the government,” Ng’ombe said.

Ng’ombe has then asked government to make sure that all forms of treatments of cervical cancer are readily available in this country.

United Nations set the month of January as cervical cancer awareness month where countries raise awareness in its prevention.
