A call has gone out to President Lazarus Chakwera to consider appointing more women to the next Cabinet as one way of improving the rights of women in the country.

Speaking to YONECO Online, one of the country’s women rights activists Babra Banda said there are still some gaps in gender issues which are contributed by low representation of women in cabinet among other factors.

“This is an opportunity for President Chakwera to look for gender equality indicators in his new cabinet that he will appoint soon,” said Banda.

“The last cabinet has shown delays on some of the agendas which they were supposed to push to parliament.”

She has therefore appealed with president Chakwera to consider appointing women expert to help in the works of promoting the right of women at large.

“We are looking forward to see the cabinet that will be on the ground in pushing the president’s agenda,” she said.

Banda has also blamed the last cabinet saying has shown a reluctant to promote issues of gender in the country saying there is a lot to be done.
