The Parliamentary Public Appointments Committee (PAC) says it will summon again the country’s Attorney General (AG) Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda.
PAC chairperson Joyce Chitsulo told YFM Online that the development follows failure by Chakaka Nyirenda to appear before the Committee Tuesday after being summoned earlier.
“Yes it is true that as PAC we expected to have a meeting with the AG this [Tuesday] morning at Parliament.
We are surprised that as a Committee he didn’t turn up, we expect him to give the Committee a reason for not coming, but as a Committee we are summoning him again this coming week,” maintained Chitsulo.
According to Chitsulo, PAC is in need of the AG to, among others, furnish the Committee with details on recruitment of controlling officers for Statutory Corporations.
She said: “You know off late we have been hearing a lot of issues to do with some boards recruiting Chief Executive Officers maybe in the wrong way or maybe the public complaining.
So we felt that as a Committee we should invite the AG, having listened to some of the boards, so we felt that there are issues that needs to be addressed by the AG if we are to do things right.”
Yoneco FM understands that the AG is in Blantyre engaged in other official assignments.
According to Chitsulo, PAC has been having a meeting with various boards from various parastatals to understand how issues if recruitment are done.
