Flames move 10 places up

Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, have moved 10 places up on the FIFA Coca-Cola ranking following impressive performances at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations finals.

 The Flames have climbed to position 119 in the world from last month’s 129.

Africa’s number one team and champions, Senegal, who were held by the Flames to a goal-less draw, have moved two places up to position 18 in the world.

Malawi’s other opponent in the finals, Morocco, have climbed three places up to position 25 from 28 in the world.

Nigeria is the third ranked team in Africa and 32 in the world after climbing three places up.

Democratic Republic of Congo is on top in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region on position 66 followed by South Africa on position 68 and Zambia on position 88.

Belgium remains number one in the world.
