Activists pray for Chizuma’s protection

Human rights activists under the banner Centre for Mindset Change (CMC) and Centre for Democracy Watch (CDW) have called upon the country’s leadership to ensure that the Office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is protected.

The two organisations, led by Philip Kamangirah and Levi Luwemba, say they are dismayed in the manner the ACB office is being politically interfered by what they call some ill-minded Malawians who are masterminding corrupt practices.

Addressing a news conference in Lilongwe, the activists said the wrath and anger of Malawians will fall upon those frustrating and intimidating the operations of the ant-graft body.

Reads part of the statement: “Suddenly today, office of the Anti- Corruption Bureau has been taken and hijacked by politicians who have looted and are continuously looting public resources through animated means of corruption.

“We are bleeding as a people when we see poor infrastructure development and social services due to corruption and yet nobody is able to see that our hearts are heavy with this bleeding.”

The Organisations have since issued a 14-day ultimatum to authorities to act on the matter and that the ACB Director General Martha Chizuma should come back in office as speculations have been that she is on holiday.

They further warned that failing which, they will mobilise countrywide mass demonstrations on March 10, 2022.

“It is alleged that the ACB Director is on holiday, if at all is true, we call upon the President to make sure that she is back in Office” said CMC Director, Philip Kamangirah.
