MPs lament Chamber leakage

Members of Parliament (MPs) on Tuesday expressed worry over continued leaking of some points in the Chamber due to heavy rains.

Responding to the concern, Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara said they will engage the Executive Arm of Government to intervene saying the status of the building is now beyond Parliament’s capacity to fix.

In an interview with YFM online, Lilongwe City Centre legislator Alfred Jiya, who brought the matter in Chamber, said authorities need to address the matter with urgency it deserves.

“All the 193 Members of Parliament they converge to this House, and that it should have some challenges some challenges it’s unbecoming,” Jiya said.

“We want things to be done as within a short period of time, not the way the bureaucratic tendencies have been.”

“We need to address this issue once and for all, and when we do that, it’s not only about little Lilongwe City Centre, it will be about Malawi, it will be about all the MPs that are coming into this House.”

On Tuesday morning, proceedings in House were suspended due to intermittent power challenge.
