DMI University calls for audit into NCHE’s operations

DMI St John The Baptist University has asked for the Association for Private Universities in Malawi’s (APUMA) intervention following the suspension of accreditation of two education programs.

National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) suspended the accreditation of the Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Education Degree programs at the University’s Mangochi campus after failure to comply with minimum standards.

According to a letter signed by DMI Vice Chancellor Dr Jerin Leno, addressed to APUMA chairperson and copied to the Acting NCHE Chief Executive Officer, the university feels that it will not be given a fair re-assessment within 90 days as propounded by the council.

National Council for Higher Education on March 23, 2022 published a notice in the local papers indicating that diploma and degree education programmes have been suspended from being offered at the DMI.

According to the University, publishing the suspension notice on the day that the university was holding its graduation ceremony it was deliberate move by the council so that it should discredit the institution.

The university has since called for auditing of the council’s dealings and operations.
