Malawi still in Covid-19 pandemic woods

A renowned public health researcher has indicated that Malawi is not yet out of the Covid-19 danger.

The researcher, Professor Maureen Chirwa made the comment on Thursday during a presser which was organized by MISA Malawi.

Chirwa implored on people to still observe Covid-19 measures until we get to zero new infections and deaths.

“There is laxity in adherence to Covid-19 preventive measures and guidelines but we still have a pandemic to fight until there cases reach zero, there is no time to relax.”

She added that: “It is important for researchers to dig deeper on how social and behavior change towards covid-19 can be achieved.”

Chirwa also highlighted the importance of Covid-19 booster doses saying people should get them so as to reduce vulnerability to covid-19 variants.

On its part Ministry of Health through its spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe said, it is a collective responsibility to ensure all persons get the right messages on Covid-19 vaccines.

He said for maximum protection all people need to get the Covid-19 booster shots.

MISA Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga said the media still has more work to do in informing people about Covid-19.

Misa Malawi has been working closely with Deutsche Welle Akademie to train media personnel on covid-19 misinformation and disinformation.
