Police investigating MUBAS students over mob justice

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has instituted an investigation into a case where unknown man has been murdered by some students from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) over an allegation of theft.

The incident happened on Saturday between 12 noon and 13:00 hours.

According to a statement released by the police, it is alleged that some MUBAS students drugged the deceased into their campus while assaulting him over accusation that he wanted to steal from one of the students.

The statement said efforts were made by some police officers who were around the scene to rescue the suspect but the students started pelting stones at the officers.

After assaulting the suspect to death, the students set his body on fire before the police moved in to collect the body.

Meanwhile, police have launched investigations to apprehend the students involved in the murder of this unknown person.

Furthermore, MPS has strongly condemned acts of mob justice and thus, urge the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Therefore, MPS has warned all those involved in mob justice that once found, they will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
