The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has expressed delight on the large turnout at the ongoing constituency and ward demarcation public hearings.

The commission is conducting public hearings in all the councils to discuss and get feedback from stakeholders regarding the preliminary constituency and ward boundaries.

Speaking in Mangochi on Monday, MEC chairperson Chifundo Kachale described the turnout as encouraging.

“The increase in participants including legislatures, chiefs, political party representatives and concerned individuals to these meetings it’s a welcome development because it shows the feedback of people on the draft map that the commission instituted to the areas of Mangochi,” said Kachale.

He assured the public that the commission will take into consideration all the concerns and the issues will be addressed accordingly.

“The issues that people have raised in Mangochi and other districts are very useful and will be taken seriously by the commission going forward,” he said.
