By Emmanuel Yokonia

Duty bearers have acted on 80% of petitions which were submitted by Children Reference Group in their August 2021 communique.

This has been disclosed at meeting organised by Children’s Reference Group in conjunction with duty bearers held in Lilongwe.

Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare which is one of the duty bearers has assured the grouping that it is working tiresomely to meet the demands petitioned by the group.

Chief Child Development Officer, Martha Chiwanda cited the annulment of over 12 thousand child marriages and massive child sexual abuse awareness campaigns.

Ministry of Education officials also said duty bearers are doing remarkable work to address challenges children are facing in their quest to attain education.

However, Co- chairperson for Children’s Reference Group, Tshiamo Mpangeni said the grouping is not contented with what the duty bearers have done so far to promote children’s rights despite been given six months to address the challenges.
