IPTE 13 teachers cry foul

By Blessings Bwanalih

A group of teachers under Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE) 13 have expressed dissatisfaction with government’s decision to recruit them on temporary basis.

The Ministry of Education announced on Thursday that 3,500 auxiliary teachers from the Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE), cohorts 13 and 14 will be placed in various primary schools across the 34 education districts on a one year contract.

IPTE 13 Chairperson, Nation Banda expressed surprise that government has not gone back on its promise to recruit the teachers on a permanent basis despite waiting for two years for this to happen.

Banda said the group will consult legal experts to help them on the matter.

On July 18, 2022, the group penned the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Local Government, The Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) and Ministry of Finance and Economic affairs to seek intervention and clarification on recruitment of teachers.
