Police nab Universal Industries worker for stealing K1.1m

Police in Blantyre are keeping in custody a 28-year-old Universal Industries Limited employee for allegedly stealing K1.1 million realised from sales of products.

Ndirande Police Station public relations officer Sub Inspector Wisdom Nhlane told YFM Online that Chifundo Mangani was working as a warehouse assistant for the company and was entrusted to work as a sales representative.

Nhlane said on July 21, 2022, Mangani was sent by the company to various places for sales and deliveries but disappeared with the money amounting K1.1 million realised from the sales.

The police were tipped that Mangani was in hiding at Chinakanaka Trading Centre in Mulanje and was later on August 1, 2022.

Mangani is expected to appear in court after finalising paperwork to answer a charge of theft by servant.

Nhlane further said an investigation is still underway in order to recover the stolen funds.

Chifundo Mangani hails from Nakutho Village in Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje district.
