Authorities to decongest Dzaleka Refugee Camp

Government has admitted that there is not enough space to accommodate refugees and asylum seekers at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

The admission follows earlier directive by the government that all refugees and asylum seekers living illegally in the country should reintegrate to the Camp en route to their respective countries.

But speaking when appearing before a parliamentary committee on international relations, Under Secretary in the Ministry of Homeland Security Irene Malumba said whilst the directive remains in force, the Camp is congested.

Malumba has since disclosed that authorities are currently working on decongesting the Camp to accommodate those being integrated.

Speaking during the same interface, Director General of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services Brigadier General Charles Kalumo said there is need for proper coordination in making sure rule of law prevails.

Meanwhile, the Committee says it is in full support of the reintegration exercise and those who want to stay in localities need to apply.
