Woman arrested for hiding granddaughter’s corpse

A 49-year-old woman Idesi Bizwick is in police custody in Mangochi District for hiding her granddaughter’s corpse.

Monkey Bay police spokesperson, Sergeant Alice Sichali said the suspect was staying with her 3-year-old granddaughter who had been suffering from Kwashiorkor for a long time and she died on August 29, 2022.

Sichali said the suspect later took the corpse and hid it near a stream.

The neighbors got suspicious after noticing the absence of the deceased for days and they reported the matter to Monkey Bay Police Station.

“Investigations were carried out, the suspect was questioned and later revealed where she hid the dead body.

“The crime scene was visited, and the dead body was found half decomposed state,” Sichali said.

Bizwick hails from Kaiya village, Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu District.

The suspect will appear in court to answer the charge of hiding the dead body.
