MP calls for more investment in early childhood education

Member of Parliament (MP) for Zomba-Likangala constituency Abgail Bongwe has asked people and organizations to invest more in early childhood education to ensure high literacy levels in the country.

She made the remarks on Friday following what she called commendable work by the people from Belgium who are implementing early childhood education projects in Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba district.

Bongwe said having a knowledgeable Malawi, whose foundation is early childhood education, is cornerstone to national development.

In her remarks, leader of Belgian team in the implementation of early childhood education, locally called Ana Malawi project, Kathreen Ven Len Bergen, said the nursery school will improve children’s performance when they start primary school level.

“We hope that, because of the nursery school education here, children will learn in advance that will make it easy for them to perform well at primary school level and have knowledge later on,” Ven Len Bergen said.
