Expert tips govt on introduction of Portuguese, Swahili in curriculum

By Blessings Bwanalih

Education policy expert Steve Sharra has advised the government to only allow schools in the border districts and those capable of hiring trained teachers to adopt Portuguese and Swahili languages.

The Ministry Education announced recently that it has started processes to introduce the two languages in its curriculum following a directive by President Lazarus Chakwera.

While describing the move as one way of strengthening cooperation and improving the economy of the country, Sharra said it is unnecessary to introduce foreign languages in all schools.
