Stormy weather kills 19, affects 6,112 households

19 people have died while 55 others have been injured following stormy weather, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs said Wednesday.
A statement signed by Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs Charles Kalemba said as of December 7, 2022, heavy rains, winds and hailstorm have affected 20 districts in the country.
The statement said 6,112 households which are approximately 27,504 people have been affected and the violent weather also caused damage to public structure mainly school blocks and health facilities.
“Currently the department has reached out to 5,036 households which are approximately to 22,662 people and representing 82 percent of the total number of affected households with relief assistance which include food and non-food items like, maize, family tents, housing units, kitchen utensils and plastic sheets for temporary roofing,” the statement reads.
The department said the provision of relief assistance is on-going in order to reach out to all the affected people.
