British national fined K720, 000 for causing death

First Grade Magistrate Court at Mkukula in Dowa has fined a British national, Allie Mussa to pay K720, 000 for causing death and driving uninsured motor vehicle.

The court through prosecutor Inspector Evance Kamtukule of Kanengo police station, heard that on 1 January this year Mussa was driving his motor vehicle in salima when he lost control of the vehicle due to over speeding.

Kamtukule said the vehicle eventually hit an oncoming motor cyclist on the offside lane who had two passengers who were pronounced death on arrival at the hospital.

Passing his judgement, First Grade Magistrate Thomson Midias, ordered Mussa to pay K560, 000 fine for the first count or in default stay in jail for two years.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay K160, 000 fine for the second count or in default stay in jail for 15 months and that the two sentences will run concurrently.
