Atupele Muluzi says flood survivors should be housed in stadiums

Former United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has suggested the use of stadiums as evacuation camps.

Writing on his Facebook page, Muluzi has called on the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to consider using stadiums as camps and not school blocks and classrooms.

“The use of stadiums would allow DoDMA to maximize security (especially for the girl child and women), carefully coordinate the rescue efforts, food distribution, and identification of real victims.”

He said the move could also enable categorization of victims and creation of help packages in compliance with the needs of the victims.

Muluzi also called on the Ministry of Education to find a solution for the graduating class by reopening schools as soon as possible as there is a serious disruption of learning.

The Ministry of Education temporarily suspended classes as some schools in the southern region are being used as camps.
