Police arrest two for stealing from Chinese national’s vehicle

Lilongwe Police Station has arrested two men who were at large for allegedly stealing two boxes of inkjet toner from a Chinese businessman’s motor vehicle. 

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Sub Inspector Foster Benjamin identified the suspects as Frank Chinyemba, and Gift Mumba who were arrested on Thursday June 29 at Bwalolanjobvu in Area 2 after committing the crime on May 17 this year.

“At the time, a China national, identified as Antony Liu, who is a CCTV installer, went into the partner’s shop, parking his Toyota Rush, registration number MHG 9576, outside the shop,” Benjamin said.

“When he returned, he found that his car door had been tampered and his items (inkjet toner) stolen.”

Police detectives also recovered the items from a stationery shop in Area 2.

The suspects, who were also captured on the CCTV camera, have been charged with theft and are expected in court soon.

Chinyemba, 46, comes from Chemwenye Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Likoswe in Chiradzulu and Mumba, 25, is from Chinangwa Village T/A Mwambo in Zomba District.
