Police in Mzimba are keeping in custody eight Ethiopian illegal immigrants who were heading to Lilongwe from Mzuzu.

Jenda Police Station spokesperson MacFarlane Mseteka said the immigrants were arrested at an emergency roadblock which was mounted at Champhira junction along M1 Road.

“When the immigrants car appeared they attempted run away but the police fired a bullet on the front Tyre. The driver and his colleague managed to jump off the speeding car leaving behind the immigrants who were arrested,” he said.

Mseteka said they have launched a man hunt for the two together with other illegal immigrants after they managed to escape at the emergency roadblock.
