Govt concerned with the low contraceptive uptake

By Lauryn M’banga

Ministry of Health says it is concerned with the low uptake of modern methods of family planning, a development which has been fueled by misconceptions, among other factors.

Adrian Chikumbe, Ministry of Health spokesperson said this as Malawi joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Contraception Day, which falls on September 26, annually.

He has since asked the masses to embrace this initiative, in order to address the country’s rapid population growth.

Presidential advisor on safe motherhood Dorothy Ngoma, said that shunning away from using contraception is fueling cases of unsafe abortion.

She has since asked all sexually active men to ensure that women take contraception.
