NFRA set to start buying maize

The National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) is set to commence maize procurement exercise from May 13, 2024.

NFRA’s Chief Executive Officer, George Macheka, told YFM Online that the government has already disbursed K10 billion to start the exercise.

An additional K12 billion allocated in the national budget expected to be release in the course of the procurement exercise.

He adds that the staple grain will be sourced from farmers with a minimum of 1 metric tonnes and some from mega farms, priced at K650 per kilogram as per the Ministry of Agriculture.
