University intake rise by 10.4%

The Ministry of Education says a total of 9,226 students have been selected to the six public universities in the country and 1,896 students to Domasi and Nalikule colleges of education.

This brings the total number of selected students to 11, 122 which represents a 10.4% increase from last year’s 10,072.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry, Mangani Katundu said out of the 19,250 applications, 17,907 were eligible.

In an interview on Thursday, an education expert, Dr. Steven Sharra described the figures as promising and an indication of improved education system.

But Dr. Sharra expressed the need for more interventions aimed at creating more space in public universities in order to ensure that all eligible students are selected.
