Man nabbed for injuring wife

A 40-year-old man is in police custody at Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe for severely assaulting his 22-year-old wife and causing fractures on both her arms in the process.

Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Laban Makalani, said the suspect, Friday Joe Dyson, is believed to have committed the offence on Tuesday, March 20, at area 25B in Lilongwe.

Sub Inspector Makalani said: “On the day of the incident, Dyson left his home, living the victim who happens to be his first wife, and went to see his second wife and later the victim followed him to the house where disagreement between the two erupted.”

He further said, following the incident, the man is reported to have severely assaulted the victim by using a piece of wood to the extent that she sustained fractures on both hands and some bruises in her body.

The victim was later referred to Bwaila Hospital where she received treatment.

Dyson, who is a well-known private plumber in area 25B, hails from Chiswe village in Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre while the victim is from Namonde village, Traditional Authority Nkalo in Chiradzulu.

He is answering a case of causing grievous harm under section 238 of the penal code and has already pleaded guilty to the charge and will appear before court soon.

Meanwhile, Police is appealing to members of the general public to seek for proper methods of resolving domestic disputes rather than resorting into violence.
