Jose replaces Kachama as new police chief

President Peter Mutharika has appointed Rodney Jose as acting Inspector General (IG) of the Malawi Police Service following the retirement of Lexten Kachama.

Jose was deputy Inspector General for operations before being elevated to the top most position in the Malawi Police Service.

According to the statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) on Monday, Duncan Mwapasa and John Nyondo have been appointed Deputy Inspector General –Operations and Administration, respectively.

OPC said the appointment of Inspector General is subject to confirmation by the Public and Appointments Committee of Parliament

The statement adds: “The post of Deputy Inspector General will be processed by the Police Service Commission.”
