Police fire teargas to disperse angry mob in Rumphi

Police have arrested 28 people on allegations that they have looted a shop belonging to a Rwandan national whom they suspect to have murdered one of the villagers at Bolero trading center in Rumphi district.

On Thursday police used teargas to disperse angry mob that was looting shops belonging to Rwandan nationals following the murder of the villager.

Speaking to YFM spokesperson for Rumphi police, Victor Khamisi said those arrested started looting the shops soon after the burial of the slain villager.

“A Rwandese national Ali Bilala 46 from Chibandoni area in was being accused of murdering a 47 year old Bernard Gondwe from Mayerere village in Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe so burial was done yesterday (Wednesday).”

Khamisi said up until the time the deceased was found dead, there was no any other report that was made to the police pertaining to the missing of Gondwe.

He disclosed that the Rwandan national has been transferred to Northern Region Police Headquarters for further investigations.
