Malawi churches urged to be self-reliant

Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has advised churches in the country to be self-reliant in their undertakings.

Chilima said this during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of St. Charles Lwanga Parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Zomba Diocese.

He said most traditional donors have stopped assisting the church as they are busy developing their areas.

“Time has now come that churches in the country, become independent in their day to day activities. People who have been assisting most churches in the country have stopped and returned back to their homes and this requires a dedication from the church,” he said.

Dr. Chilima went on urging Christians in the country to take part in different activities happening both in their churches and their country at large.

However people who were gathered at the event were left baffled by the veep’s sentiments that no one can ask another person to go and sleep saying the one who feels like sleeping, just does so freely.
