Women’s football team in tree plantation drive

A women football team, Bangwe Super Queens has unveiled plans to plant 15,000 trees in different places in Blantyre.

Team Manager, Chikondi Pophiwa told YFM that they have earmarked Soche Hill, premises around Mudi dam catchment area and Maravi.

He said the move is to complement government’s efforts in mitigating the impact of climate change.

“We are planning to plant trees in some parts of Blantyre this month. We have chosen areas that have faced massive deforestation within the city,” Pophiwa said.

He has since urged stakeholders to join hands with the team in the exercise which is slated for this month.

“We would like to ask well-wishers and other stakeholders to join us in the exercise scheduled for this month,” he added.

Malawi is currently in tree planting season which runs until April.
