Saulos Chilima to Ansah: ‘Resign’

Former Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima has asked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Dr. Jane Ansah to resign due to incompetence.

Dr. Chilima told the press in Lilongwe on Friday that Dr. Ansah has betrayed Malawians by among others accepting the results of ‘rigged’ elections.

Dr. Chilima, who is UTM president said the party has all the evidence of misconduct against Dr. Ansah.

He cited an example that some people in some areas voted more than once on top of releasing the presidential results without addressing the anomalies which were presented to the electoral body.

Dr. Chilima added that the party has privately written Dr. Ansah on the matter and that she would be getting the letter by the close of business on Friday.

“It was so pathetic for MEC to proceed announcing the presidential results despite several irregularities which engulfed the whole voting and counting processes, UTM has all the evidence that the elections were rigged and that MEC contributed to the same,” he said.

He cited an example that in some areas where the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is strong, some people were voting twice and swapping the results of the candidates.

The party has therefore asked Dr. Ansah to give room to competent people to lead the electoral body.

“She has demonstrated to be a failure and that she can’t be trusted. As a party, we are therefore asking her to peacefully resign from her post,” added Dr. Chilima.

However in her WhatsApp conversation with the reporter, Dr. Ansah said she cannot comment anything on the call for her resignation.

Dr. Chilima also told president Peter Mutharika that he did not win the elections and reminded him that he is well aware that Malawians did not vote for him.
