No room for corruption says minister

Government says it will deal with all council officials who indulge in corrupt practices when awarding construction contracts.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri said this in Zomba after touring some of the development projects in the district warning that government will dismiss the said officers.

Phiri added that government will not relent on this while cautioning the contractors that they will have their contracts terminated.

“What you have to know is that we have sung a song of corruptions for a long time and now honeymoon is over, my ministry will not tolerate any idea of paying substandard work because I think its high time we start giving Malawian the best they deserve.”

“Anybody involved in corruption will not be transferred as it used to be, that will be suspension pending investigations and dismissal right away,” he explained.

The minister further gave an example of contractor who has gone back to site on his cost following his work which was not impressive at Banana in Blantyre as a one-year old road started developing potholes.
