As hunger crisis looms in some parts of the country, Minister of Information Mark Botomani has donated maize to about 3000 families that are food insecure in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba district.

The 3000 beneficiaries include those that were affected by floods early this year.

Botomani who is also a Member of Parliament for Zomba Chisi Constituency said his area has also been affected by the hunger due to devastating floods that washed away their crops.

“Let me thank President Peter Mutharika and other organizations because of their unwavering support that is being rendered to flood victims which include donations of food and non-food relief items.

‘’We need to join hands with the government regardless of political party affiliation as campaign season ended,” he said.

Village headman Chimwaza applauded the minister for the visit as well as the donation.

“The donation has reached in a good time because many people in the area have acute shortage of food due to the disaster which affected most in the area,’’ said Chimwaza.

‘’Let me ask government to continue making such donations as the donation by the minister will not cater all the people who are affected by the hunger,’’ he said.

One of the beneficiaries Bena Kaombe also thanked the minister for the donation.

“I am happy with the donation because I had a challenge of hunger and now that I have received the donation am hoping that the degree of the hunger will be minimized,” Kaombe.
