The National Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (NASME) has hailed efforts to enhance adoption and usage of electronic payments in the country.

NASME chairperson William Mwale said that such developments are a big boost to the private sector as they ease the process of payment for different goods and services.

Mwale said this will also help to extend business opportunities to member states in Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA).

He said COMESA has been supporting digital financial services transactions.

“I know COMESA is actually championing it and they will be in the country next week to have a workshop in Lilongwe and Blantyre to introduce the digitalization of payments,” Mwale said.

He said that farmers will also benefit from increased uptake of E-payments.

“Mostly farmers will benefit a lot because they are the ones who suffer a lot from late payments so when such a development is well established this will no longer pose such a big problem,” Mwale said.
