Red Cross donates PPE at Matawale Health Centre

By Sarah Mlozoa

As one way of appreciating health care workers’ efforts in the fight against Covid-19, the Malawi Red Cross society has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) at Matawale Health Centre in Zomba.

Communications and humanitarian diplomacy specialist for the Malawi Red-Cross Felix Washon said they have made the donation because health workers are at a high risk of contracting the disease as they usually come in contact with patients.

“It’s our desire to make sure that health workers are being provided with protective materials to create a safe working environment amidst covid-19.

“You will believe me that there is a lot of cry for health workers to be provided with protection materials,” Washon said.

Washon said the donation is in line with Red Cross covid-19 response program whereby they are working with the local authorities and district health centers.

Senior Nursing Officer at Matawale Health Center Mayamiko Machika expressed gratitude over the donation saying it has come in time when the facility is facing shortage of personal protective equipment.

Among other things that were donated are gloves, masks, and chlorine and basins.
