Cyber Crime a threat to national security-Government

Government has hailed the cooperation between the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) and the U.S. Africa Command in enhancing issues of security in the country.

Deputy Defence Minister Everton Chimulilenji said the continued collaboration will foster peace in the country.

Chimulirenji made the remarks on Monday in Lilongwe after opening the Africa Endeavor 2017 Leader Symposium.

Chimulirenji said the symposium will help to help the country to deal with cyber-crime.

“The symposium will help to impart skills to the MDF to deal with cyber-crime which is becoming a threat to national security,” he said.

United States Africa Command’s Deputy Commander for Military Operations, Lt. Gen. James Vechery stressed the need for collective efforts in dealing with cyber-crime.

More than 45 nations across Africa are participating in the symposium with a focus on cyber security and defence.

The symposium is taking place under the theme: “Interconnecting Africa through Communications Interoperability.”
