Bullets promise players’ insurance scheme

Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club has intensified an initiative which will cover all its players under insurance scheme.

Chief Executive Officer for the club, Fleetwood Haiya, said the initiative will help to insure the players in both injury and workers compensation scheme.

Haiya said: “In the past whereby we were paying for the players when they get injured, it was a big expense to the club and players were not assured of their lives. But now we have taken a step forward whereby we are insuring all of them.”

Commenting on whether the club will register with the newly formed Football Players Association of Malawi (FPAM) whose aims are also to address similar wellbeing of the players, Haiya confirmed the clubs intension to be part of the association.

“We are going to register with FPAM but as you are aware some of these initiatives FPAM haven’t yet started and players have already started playing so that’s why we have taken this initiative,” he said.

A number of players in the country have been suffering without support after picking injuries and some ended their career prematurely.
