Malawi Red Cross bails out 7000 food insecure households

The Malawi Red Cross Society is expected to spend K350 million in response to 7000 food insecure households in Mwanza district.

This is according to George Mwimaniwa, Disaster Risk Reduction Project Manager for Malawi Red Cross Society who revealed that the money will be distributed for a period of five months.

The Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee(MVAC) report indicated that at least 1.3 million people will be food insecure in the lean season for 2018/2019.

“In response to the MVAC report our organization decided to adopt Mwanza district with financial support from the Danish Red Cross.”

Mwimaniwa also said that they are working closely with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) in the exercise.

The 2018/2019 lean season food insecurity plan is currently being implemented by DODMA and other humanitarian partners.
