Bushiri, wife out on bail

The Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria has finally granted bail to South African-based Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

According to South African online news site – News24, the two have paid R100, 000 each which is equivalent to MK5.4 million as a bail bond.

The couple was arrested by the Hawks in Rustenburg on Friday on alleged offences of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.

News24 reports that the couple provided compelling reasons that persuaded the Magistrate Martin Van Wyk to grant them bail.

During the court hearing the couple once again pleaded not guilty against the charges.

They said they do not have any history of convictions or pending warrants of arrest.

Bushiri further pleaded that they posed no flight risk because all their identity cards are held by police.

It was all jovial among Christians of the Enlightened Christian Gathering- ECG on Wednesday morning outside the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria following the bail ruling.

The two are expected to appear again in court on May 10 this year.

Never the less, the couple run several business enterprises in South Africa and abroad.
