Zomba Flea Market vendors have expressed concern over unhygienic conditions in some parts of the market.
The insanitary is said to be influenced by damaged sewer tank pipes in the market
Speaking to YFM, Zomba flea market deputy chairperson Billy Matumba said the sewer tank was damaged three years ago but has not been maintained to date, thereby posing a threat of a cholera outbreak.
Matumba said although they reported the issue to the city council but no help has been rendered.
“This septic tank has had this problem for three years now, we have given our grievances to the city council but they haven’t maintain it up to now,” Matumba said.
“The tank is near restaurants and business operators are failing to deliver because stinking which also makes customers not to be able to enter the market place because there are raining away for the same.”
But when asked for comment on the matter, Zomba City Council Mayor, Benson Bulla asked for more time before he commented on the matter.
