MCP, UTM to discuss security concerns with police

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM alliance has asked for an audience with the commissioner of police for the southern region over security concerns.

Confirming the development to YONECO FM online, campaign director for MCP, Moses Kunkuyu said they requested to meet the police commissioner following violent attacks during the first phase of voter registration and to iron out fears on the same in this campaign period.

Kunkuyu said, if these issues are not discussed the parties will not feel safe when participating in electoral processes.

“We witnessed some ugly scenes of violence where the National Registration Bureau (NRB) kits were damaged.

“As that was not enough our monitors have also been harassed during the second phase of voter registration and we feel this will impact on our campaign.”

Kunkuyu said they will visit the police commissioner on Tuesday.
