A woman in Dedza, has been killed by an angry mob for trying to steal a motorbike belonging to Yakobe White of Kaunda village in Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza district.
According to Dedza police station deputy publicist, Sergeant Cassim Manda, the deceased has been identified as a 24-year-old Josophine Andsen.
Sergeant Manda said: “On the evening of September 7, the deceased was in company of another man who was also seriously injured after being stoned by the angry mob.”
“The two suspects approached a motorcycle taxi operator, Yakobe White, at Linthipe 1 stage where they posed as passengers and requested him to take them to Gowoke village but while on the way, it is alleged that Josophine asked the motorcycle taxi operator to stop for her to do other things,” he said.
Sergeant Manda further said while White was waiting, Josophine’s accomplice emerged and attacked him prompting the victim to scream for help a development which attracted nearby villagers.
Well-wishers took White to Nkhoma Mission Hospital while some, launched a manhunt for the suspects.
The villagers managed to apprehend the two assailants at Gowoke village where they were trying to escape with the motorcycle and started pelting stones at them.
Linthipe police post was informed about the incident and they rushed to the scene where they rescued and took the suspects to the hospital where Josophine was pronounced dead upon arrival while her accomplice who was unconscious has been admitted.
Josophine Andsen hailed from Chimasula village in traditional authority Kaphuka in Dedza.
